THE SALTERNS, NEW FOREST

The Salterns is located within the New Forest National Park close to Lymington.

The site is directly on the coast, with just a single track road separating the site form the salt marshes to the Solent where the Isle of Wight is clearly visible and just a 15 minute journey across the water.

For this reason, the site is one of a kind. The site was occupied historically by a large Villa which was subject to fire damage in more recent years, resulting in a make-do repair where the property was reduced to just single storey.

We were approached by our client as an integral part of a wider design team of Interior Designers, Structural Engineers and Quantity Surveyors to design a replacement dwelling, based on initial sketch concepts.

From grant of planning permission, Kent Design Studio Worked closely with the New Forest National Park’s conservation officer to agree technical building details, materials, and overall design principles for the scheme.

Once agreed, work started on site where we were heavily involved, assisting with steel work setting out, detailing queries from the contractor, and providing general assistance in the build.

The end result is a stunning, 8,000 sq ft house that takes full advantage of the outlook, from the raised ground floor allowing views over the perimeter wall, glazed dormer cheeks with 180 degree views and open first floor ‘pepperpot’ veranda.
