BRIEF: Class Q Barn Conversion

• At Kent Design Studio we are involved with a number of projects under the Permitted Development Class Q, whereby provided certain conditions are met, agricultural barns can be converted into residential dwellings.

• This barn, which lies within Hawkenbury, near Staplehurst in Kent is just one of many which has been recently completed to a high standard by our client and a local building contractor.

• The barn started life as a concrete framed ‘Atcost’ barn and Kent Design Studio was commissioned to gain prior approval under class Q and then take the project forward to be built.

• Building Regulation and Tender Drawings were completed, and we also provided some on site assistance to the contractor to create a contemporary style home with double height spaces, galleried landing and lots of glazing looking out across the countryside.​
