HAFFENDEN BARN, SMARDEN
Haffenden Barn lies in the outskirts of Smarden, in a rural setting and comprises a converted barn and large detached garage.
Kent Design Studio were approached by our client to maximise the space available within the garage, creating three double bedrooms for their large family.
The challenge was to successfully link the existing garage space and barn, with minimal impact to the important existing agricultural form of the property.
We set about extending the existing garage footprint to accommodate the bedrooms required, including a new bathroom. We then linked the garage to the barn with a glazed link, minimising visual impact of the proposal significantly, and creating an element of architectural interest also.
We were heavily involved on site, often visiting twice a week to mock up patterns with the carpenter, run through sketches and ideas with the glazing specialist and to ensure our concept was being implemented to a satisfactory level.
The site team have done a great job, and the project is a huge success.
All of the above was carried out by Kent Design Studio from initial thoughts through to completion, and included a full planning application, building regulations submission and a heavy involvement on site.
