POOL HOUSE BARN CONVERSION, ROTHER
This exciting project is located within the borough of Rother District Council and looked to utilise an existing barn within the grounds of a Grade II listed farmhouse to create leisure facilities next to an existing swimming pool.
The existing barn had beautiful internal framework which we wanted to showcase and enhance through the conversion. The barn was adapted to insert large areas of glazing to link the building to the wrap around gardens. The original barn doors have been retained and fixed open, with powder coated aluminium framework glazing inserted into the existing openings, to provide a view through the building to the gardens beyond.
The gables have been stripped of their external walls and glazing inserted into the existing oak framework to provide a light and airy space within. Externally, the glazing reflects the beautifully manicured gardens.
A mezzanine area, accessed by an external staircase has been beautifully detailed to provide a home office, with the main body of the barn accessed via the ground floor, which benefits from vaulted ceilings, creating a real impact as you enter the building.
The owners have tastefully decorated the spaces with a log burning stove and soft furnishings to create an environment which is a joy to be in no matter the weather.
The original planning application was refused by Rother District Council, and subsequently overturned at appeal.
